The Instrumental program was part of the Biola University high school music festival held in California on March 20-22 . This was the first time Valley Christian participated in the festival with the Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Valley Rhythmics. All three ensembles performed marvelously and were awarded high honors. Jazz Band and Valley Rhythmics received a Superior rating (highest possible) and Concert Band received an Excellent rating (second highest) for their performances.
The students also had the unique opportunity to be part of a recording workshop at Disney studios where they were challenged to sight read Disney musical movie cues. They learned, performed and recorded musical cues to Disney movies conducted by Professor Fellar of Biola University (Disney Clinician). Within an hour time frame the students were able to complete four musical cues and got to hear and see the Disney movie clip along with their recording on a huge film screen in the studio.
The trip was capped off by a visit to Free Chapel in Orange County on Sunday morning. It was a powerful service as we joined in worship and were challenged by a thought provoking message. We all left impacted by the word God had for us that morning and many (re)committed their lives to Jesus that morning. Overall, it was a great trip in which the students were challenged academically, musically and spiritually.
